Arrest Records in Berkeley County
A Berkeley County arrest creates several records. The officer's agency writes the incident or arrest report. Hill-Finklea Detention Center creates the booking, custody, fingerprint, and intake data for a person brought there. Bond Court creates the initial release record. A magistrate, municipal court, or General Sessions court opens the court file. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division updates a statewide criminal-history cycle only when qualifying fingerprints and later disposition data reach its repository.
These records can differ without one being a copy of another. Booking charges reflect allegations at intake. A solicitor or indictment may change them. Release may occur before the full docket is visible. Berkeley County Sheriff's Records Management keeps deputy reports and reported dispositions, but it does not conduct local background checks. The office directs statewide history requests to SLED CATCH. The arresting agency, detention center, court, and SLED each answer a different part of an arrest search.
Berkeley County Booking at Hill-Finklea
Hill-Finklea Detention Center, at 300 California Avenue in Moncks Corner, is Berkeley County's detention facility. A completed expansion celebrated in June 2026 raised rated capacity to 564 beds and added an infirmary, more than 100 single-occupancy cells, and a new public lobby. Those current facts replace older capacity descriptions. Booking questions go to 843-719-4876, while detention records can be reached at 843-719-4557.
After arrest, staff record the person's identity, the booking episode, the arresting agency, and current allegations. Fingerprints for qualifying arrests support submission to SLED. Bond Court at 223 North Live Oak Drive holds weekday sessions at 9 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.; weekend sessions are at 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Its phone is 843-719-4593. Once all release documents reach the jail, administrative processing may take one to four hours.
Berkeley County Arrest Lookups
Lead with the record closest to the event. The official county roster is best for present custody, but it is not a full arrest history. A deputy report must be requested from the Sheriff, while a Goose Creek, Hanahan, Moncks Corner, or state-agency report stays with that agency. The Public Index then shows filed court activity. Berkeley County Arrest Report Wait
The Sheriff's Records Management Office generally makes an incident report public after 1 p.m. on the fifth business day following the report date. Request the copy in person and bring picture identification. The office maintains deputy-generated reports, dispositions, expungement orders, subpoenas, and related paperwork. It also sends crime data to SLED. It cannot replace a city police report and does not create a local criminal-history report.
Identify the agency before traveling. If the citation or booking names Goose Creek Police, Hanahan Police, Moncks Corner Police, Highway Patrol, or another agency, request that source file there. Describe the incident number, date, place, and document type. Ask in advance whether research, redaction, or copy fees apply. Active-investigation facts, protected identifiers, juvenile material, victim-sensitive information, and body-camera footage may face different disclosure rules.
For other county records, Berkeley County routes FOIA requests through OneBerkeley, not email or fax. That does not turn city police reports or court files into Legal Department records.

An arrest file can span an agency report and jail booking. Source-supported fields include the incident or case number, reported date and time, event location, arresting agency and officer, subject identifiers, probable-cause narrative, alleged offenses and statutes, arrest date and time, booking number, booking time, fingerprint or control identifiers, custody facility, bond, and releasing court. Public copies redact protected personal data and material tied to juveniles, victims, or a live investigation.

No booking photograph is republished here. The official record channel should be consulted for whatever public fields it currently displays. Even a complete booking entry proves that intake occurred, not that the allegation led to a conviction.
Berkeley County Municipal Arrest Routes
City arrests require a split search. Goose Creek Police maintains its own arrest data, while its Municipal Court keeps citation and disposition information. A custodial booking can also appear at Hill-Finklea. Hanahan accepts records requests through its city FOIA portal or in person at 1255 Yeamans Hall Road. Its incident report costs $8, police research is $20 per hour, and copies cost $0.25 per page.
Moncks Corner Police Records is at 118 Carolina Avenue and serves the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Victims receive incident reports without a charge. Named parties may request by case number or involved-person name. Other requesters use FOIA. The records clerk is at 843-719-7935. Each city route is separate from the county jail booking and from any later Berkeley County court file.

Timing limits matter. A very recent intake, transfer, or release can make the roster incomplete. A person who has left county custody may no longer be easy to locate there. The Sheriff's disclaimer warns that information may be wrong or not current. Call Booking or detention Records when the result is unclear. For someone moved into a state sentence, use the SCDC Incarcerated Inmate Search, which updates from the prior midnight.
The free “Berkeley County Sheriff” app launched in December 2023. Its announcement does not verify an inmate or warrant tool, so use the jail and phone channels unless the live app confirms one.
Note: No result in a current jail roster proves neither that an arrest never occurred nor that a warrant does not exist.
Berkeley County Arrest Fingerprints Reach CATCH
South Carolina law requires fingerprints and transmission for qualifying arrests. Those prints link an arrest cycle to the SLED repository. Later court disposition reporting is needed to connect a dismissal, acquittal, plea, or conviction. An arrest lacking transmitted fingerprints may never reach the Computerized Criminal History record, while a missing disposition can leave a cycle incomplete. Direct indictments without new fingerprints create another documented gap.
CATCH is name-based for public users, even though the repository relies on fingerprint-supported submissions. It costs $25 plus the posted online service charge. The search covers South Carolina only and excludes wanted-person information and the sex offender registry. Name, date-of-birth, and alias differences can cause a false positive or false negative. A Berkeley County arrest search should therefore compare CATCH with the booking, court docket, and source agency report.
Berkeley County Booking Path
A Berkeley deputy, city officer, or trooper first writes the agency report. A person taken into custody is transported to Hill-Finklea. Since 2018, a weekend prisoner-transport van has met deputies, Goose Creek and Hanahan officers, and troopers working in southern Berkeley County. Jail staff record the booking episode and qualifying fingerprints. Magistrates then conduct initial proceedings and set bail.

The charge may stay in a summary court or move to General Sessions. A municipal matter may require direct contact with that city court when Public Index coverage is incomplete. After the jail receives all release papers, processing may take one to four hours. That wait reflects administrative work and does not by itself state the court outcome.

Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
An arrest is an allegation and custody event. A conviction is a court judgment of guilt. The two records come from different custodians, and the first does not guarantee the second. A person can be released without a filed charge, the solicitor may amend an allegation, or a court may dismiss or acquit. Read the filed disposition for each count before describing a Berkeley County case outcome.
